Papatango Theatre Company Ltd

Papatango are an award-winning theatre company. We find and launch brilliant new playwrights with a unique commitment to producing and publishing their work.

Our discoveries have won BAFTAs, OffWestEnd, Alfred Fagon and RNT Foundation awards, premiered with RSC, BBC, National Theatre, Hampstead Theatre, and transferred worldwide.

Their amazing success inspires grassroots artists. Each year we run free playwriting courses in schools for thousands of pupils and donate hundreds of free tickets.

Founded 2007

  • Mission statement

Papatango's mission is to discover, nurture and launch the best new playwrights without regard to risk, and to share the incredible success stories of our discoveries to inspire grassroots artists and audiences that they too can make great theatre. Our motto says it all: All You Need Is A Story.

Our commitment to providing opportunities that are free, open to anyone in the UK and Ireland, and anonymous (to ensure talent is the only consideration) is unprecedented. We are determined that anyone with a story to tell should be able to contact us with a script, and we give feedback to every submission - unique in the UK.

We champion our writers with a full commission and extensive development leading to a guaranteed production and publication, a commitment made by no other company in the UK. This means that our discoveries begin their careers with maximum impact, and their career progression is unrivalled. We actively support their next steps and arrange further opportunities and collaborations with leading companies.

Our extensive work to share the stories of our discoveries takes us into schools, community centres and libraries, running free playwriting courses and donating free tickets to individuals and groups at risk of exclusion from theatre and creative writing.
