The Marine Society and Sea Cadets

Sea Cadets is a national, nautical youth charity enabling young people from 10-18 to expand their horizons and take part in life-changing adventures.

As many as 6,000 of our cadets are in parts of the UK gripped by social deprivation.

The bursaries we offer ensure that we can offer the Sea Cadet experience to young people from all around the country, regardless of their economic background.

Founded 1756

  • Mission statement

Leadership, teamwork, friendship and self-belief –
we turn struggling into succeeding and help young people find a new sense of direction.

At a time when too many are feeling lost, confused and struggling to make their way through school and into work, we provide a safe space where they can work out who they want to be on their own terms.

The new skills they learn with us help them to feel they really matter and part of the team. Our aim is to help more young people to see the future they want – and make that future happen.

Sea Cadets offers young people a safe place to try new activities and develop skills. Away from external pressures they can build new friendships and meet new challenges head on, whilst simultaneously acquiring qualifications that can give them a head start in life.

Thanks to our 9,000 volunteers, our cadets are introduced to a huge range of sports such as windsurfing, rowing and sailing, all at an affordable costs. By introducing them to often new and always exciting activities, Sea Cadets boosts the confidence and self esteem of young people.
