  • Mission statement

The Sandcastle Trust recognises the need for support for the wider family and a greater recognition of the impact a family member being diagnosed with a rare genetic condition has on the rest of the family. Spending quality time as a family is more important than ever and yet becomes much harder. We aim to enhance the family life of those affected by rare genetic conditions through the provision of holidays, day trips and respite breaks - as well as sound advice for those who are financially able to support their own family experience, but are concerned with how to navigate the often unavoidable complications that exist with doing so when the family is affected by a rare genetic condition e. G. Accessibility issues, transport concerns, medical equipment availability, care support etc. It is our mission to ensure that no child misses out on the experience of a family holiday or family day out due to either their diagnosis with a rare genetic condition or that of their parent or sibling. There is a significant body of academic research that highlights the positive impact that holidays and spending quality time together as a family have on health, wellbeing, happiness and quality of life. This is especially important for families where a member has been diagnosed with a rare genetic condition as the physical, emotional and financial strain can often tear families apart. A simple break away from these daily struggles can offer holistic respite for the whole family.
