Gloucestershire Action For Refugees And Asylum Seekers

GARAS (Gloucesterhsire Action for Refugees and Asylum Seekers) seeks to offer support to those seeking asylum in Gloucestershire, welcoming them when they arrive, advocating for them in their daily struggles, supporting them if they face being sent back and helping them to adjust to their long term future if they are recognised as refugees. We also support other migrants with immigration issues.

    GARAS seeks to promote the welfare of refugees, asylum seekers through...
    1. Our Drop-in centre which will be a safe space providing top level support to clients offering:
    - information, advocacy and advice on immigration; asylum;housing;health;benefits;law;education;careers etc
    - activities, refreshments and friendship
    - access to other agencies
    - practical needs
    - counselling for those suffering the effects of trauma
    -ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages)

    2. Liaising with other agencies in Gloucester/shire which encounter asylum seekers, refugees and other migrants, including negotiating access to services at strategic level.

    3. Raising awareness about the situation of asylum seekers and refugees an Gloucester/shire with both the public and decision makers.
