Classics For All

Classics for All raises funds to enable students in state schools to study Latin, Ancient History, Classical Civilisation and Ancient Greek. We award start up grants for introducing or extending the teaching of classical subjects in state schools, many of which are located in areas of high socio-economic deprivation. Our grants support the training and mentoring of primary and secondary school teachers so that they can teach classical subjects to a high standard.

Founded 2010

  • Mission statement

The object of Classics for All is to advance education in the languages, history and culture of Ancient Greece and Rome and the classical world generally. The charity works for a world in which every state school pupil has the opportunity to benefit from the learning and enjoyment which studying Classics can bring. Our mission is to create a sustainable demand for Classics in state schools and generate the resources, both within schools and externally, to meet it.

The main activities undertaken to further the charity’s purposes for the public benefit are to support state schools, particularly those in deprived areas, to introduce classical subjects to pupils of all abilities and backgrounds. By including freely available classics teaching resources and guides on our website, we also provide public benefit beyond the scope of our grants programme.

  • Aims

    Classics For All aims to:

    • To reach state schools that wish to offer classical subjects to improve their pupils' cultural knowledge, literacy and language skills, but who don't have resources to support the initial start-up.
