Save The Elephants

Save the Elephants (STE) is a UK registered charity based in Kenya. Founded 1993 by Dr. Iain Douglas-Hamilton, STE works to sustain elephant populations and preserve the habitats in which they are found, while at the same time fostering a heightened appreciation and visibility for elephants and their often fragile existence.

    STE’s mission is to secure a future for elephants and sustain the beauty and ecological integrity of the places they live, to promote man’s delight in their intelligence and the diversity of their world, and to develop a tolerant relationship between the two species.

  • Aims

    Save The Elephants aims to:

    • To conduct vital research on elephant behaviour and our solid scientific data helps shift international policy towards a better future for the species.
    • To support partners in the implementation of different projects aimed at stopping the killing, stopping the trafficking and ending the demand for ivory.
    • To provide information on elephant movements for landscape planners to protect rangeland and creates innovative solutions to prevent elephants from raiding crops, such as our Elephants & Bees project
    • To develop a conservation ethic based on local knowledge and elephant needs, and recognize that the best ambassadors for elephants are the people
