Toucan Employment

Toucan Employment is the UK’s longest-running supported employment charity for people with learning difficulties/disabilities; we aim to reduce the social exclusion of clients from in the London boroughs of Southwark, Lambeth, Lewisham, and Brent by aiding them to find and retain appropriate employment. Our service is tailored to meet both the needs of the job-seeker and the employer by offering full support during the whole of the recruitment process.

Founded 1989

  • Mission statement

“To ensure that people with learning disabilities who wish to work can find and maintain rewarding employment and increase their quality of life”.

Since we were established in 1989 we have worked with hundreds of individuals and employers to promote the inclusion of disability in the workplace; in the last 10 years we have supported well over 550 people with learning disabilities into paid employment with employers including: The Royal Festival Hall, Tate Modern, APCOA Parking, Tesco’s, Sainsbury’s, Morrison’s, ASDA, The Co-Op, The Ministry of Defence, Pizza Hut, the YMCA, Camberwell Bus Garage, Herne Hill Velodrome, Morley College, The General Social Care Council, Urban Outfitters, the Old Post Office Bakery, Pulross Road Playground, The Hayward Gallery, the Houses of Parliament, Woolworths, Peacocks, GAP, Marks and Spencer, London South Bank University, Argos, Chelsea Football Club, Harrods, the Cutty Sark, Harrison’s Catering, Hyde Housing, Advocacy partners, Abel and Cole and many more. Toucan Employment works with some of most marginalised people in the job market - people who would often otherwise just be left in the mire of day centres, where there is a self-perpetuating circle of disinterest and meaningless activities.
