The British Shalom-Salaam Trust

We fund grassroots Jewish, Palestinian and joint projects within Israel/ Palestine that address oppression and disadvantage and are committed to a just resolution of the Israel/Palestine conflict.

Founded 2004

  • Mission statement

BSST is the only Jewish grant-giving charity in Britain specifically established to work both within Israel’s 1967 borders and in the Occupied Territories (Gaza, Golan and the West Bank including East Jerusalem). BSST funds grass roots projects that do hugely diverse work: peace building and inter-communal cooperation; anti-racism; human rights, especially women’s rights; education; health; children’s play; culture and sport; protection of the environment, all alleviating some of the conflict’s suffering and bitterness, and working to build a more humane society and lasting peace between the communities of Israel/Palestine. We also support work among African refugees and migrant workers in Israel, who, as well as Palestinians, are severely neglected and marginalised.
BSST has funders and beneficiaries of many ethnicities, and of many faiths and none. However, our own Jewish identity is central to our work. By our actions, we hope to represent a positive – and practical - Jewish statement of support for a just and democratic peace.
BSST has built up extensive specialist knowledge and a significant network of contacts in the region and we are experienced and skilled in making informed judgments about groups that others might find difficult to evaluate. Our first decade has seen us work with 100 groups and approaching 200 projects.
Giving to BSST is, thus, a simple, cost-effective and targeted way of assisting many small groups engaged in vital grassroots activities.
