Shine: Support And Help In Education

SHINE is an education charity that changes the lives of disadvantaged young people by providing them with extra English and Maths support and creative learning opportunities after school, on Saturdays

Founded 1999

  • Mission statement

Education should be life’s great opportunity but for the 3. 6 million children living in poverty in the UK the future is bleak. These children are more likely to leave school with poor qualifications, earn less and even die younger than their wealthier peers.

Helping children achieve their true potential through education, inspiration and opportunity is what SHINE is all about. Our vision is that all children should have the chance to succeed irrespective of their background and family income. But too many times, for too many children, this is not the case. In fact, it has been shown that outcomes at school are strongly correlated with incomes at home. For example, children from disadvantaged backgrounds are almost twice as likely to leave primary school with lower than expected English and maths.

SHINE funds teachers and schools on the frontline of education to level the playing field and help vulnerable children gain the education they need to succeed at school and beyond.
