Omushana, Sunshine For Children

Omushana, Sunshine for Children, works to enhance the lives of, and opportunities for, children living in villages around the Mountain Gorilla reserves of South-West Uganda.

Founded 2010

  • Mission statement

The essence of Omushana is to make a positive contribution to children’s lives by improving their educational opportunities, welfare, confidence and enjoyment. We achieve this by providing and delivering equipment and grants to schools and children's groups working to support children in the remote Mgahinga and Bwindi areas of Uganda. All projects are initiated at a grass-roots level, with needs identified by local communities and with local communities fully involved, for example providing materials and labour. Overheads are minimal (all costs covered by the Trustees) so that 100% of donations reach Ugandan projects. And expenditure is carefully monitored so that all donations are fully accounted for. Donors receive regular updates on projects so that they can see the difference their donation makes to so many children.
