Founded 2011

  • Mission statement

    OUR CHALLENGE:
Kagera is one of the poorest regions of Tanzania, itself one of the top 10 poorest nations. Household income < $100 p. A. , life expectancy 43 years, HIV carriage 28%, 1 in 3 babies HIV positive, infant mortality rate 12%. There are estimated to be nearly 200,000 orphans in the region.

Such families cannot afford medicine, clothing, food or education and are dependent on subsistence farming, often ruined by unreliable weather.

Today some 25,000 widow/orphans are being helped by the charity; of this 14,000 are orphaned children, and 6,500 of these are in secondary education or colleges where fees are funded by Tumaini.

MISSION: INSPIRED BY BIBLICAL IMPERATIVES, TO SUPPORT THE AIDS WIDOWS AND ORPHANS, EMPOWERING THEM TOWARDS A SELF-SUFFICIENCY

Structure: 4 offices, 25 full time staff led by evangelists and 100 parish workers as intermediaries with the outlying villages and their pastors.

MISSION: TO PROVIDE ALL LEVELS A CHANCE AT NEW SKILLS
Alongside each office we have built a vocational training centre where those who are not able to achieve the Government-required level at school can learn other disciplines that will be equally valuable.

Husbandry - crops and animal management
Skills - sewing, carpentry, maths and english
    Primary and secondary school construction
Finance - savings and loans groups

Other initiatives: bicycles, solar lamps, nets, dispenser schools and teacher training schemes, HIV hospital treatment, clean water wells.
