Students Union University Of Greenwich

SUUG is a democratic organisation run by students, for students, to represent student views to the University and to provide support services for its members.

Founded 1995

  • Mission statement

SUUG supports thousands of students through their time at University, facilitating a wide range of social activities and events, over 100 clubs and societies, providing a voice for students through its representative structures and practical support though a specialist Advice Service, as well as running two bars and a shop and providing volunteering opportunities. All of this helps ensure that students can maximise their own potential during their time at University and their prospects having graduated.
As one of the UK's largest Universities, Greenwich has a diverse student population including many students who may be the first in their families to attend University and a relatively large proportion of mature and part-time students. In common with other London Universities, many students live some distance from the campus at which they study, and this creates a challenge when building a community of students. The external Trustees on SUUG's Board are vital for maintaining a continuity of experience and skills. An additional and unusual facet of our Board in common with all Students' Unions is the presence of Student Trustees and Sabbatical Officer Trustees, who change every one or two years. They bring current experience of being a student, new opinions and ensure that the student voice is heard throughout the organisation.
