Trauma Aid UK

Trauma Aid UK is a registered charity set up to provide training in EMDR therapy and traumatology to local mental health professionals working with people in traumatised communities worldwide.

Founded 2010

  • Mission statement

Trauma Aid UK (TAUK) provides EMDR therapy training directly to qualified and experienced mental health professionals who in turn can effectively treat adults and children experiencing psychological symptoms of trauma.

EMDR is a psychological treatment method proven to be beneficial in treating psychological trauma arising from experiences as diverse as war related experiences, childhood sexual and/or physical abuse or neglect, natural disaster, assault and accidents. It is recognised by the WHO (World Health Organisation 2013) as an effective treatment for trauma.

TAUK recognises the benefits of EMDR treatment to those areas of the world which have been blighted by civil conflict, leaving a traumatised population, with restricted capacity to develop and introduce much needed psychological treatments. TAUK provides training, ongoing supervision and support which enable local mental health professionals to treat people suffering from psychological trauma. The ultimate aim is to create new independent national EMDR associations capable of continuing and expanding the national training of EMDR. In this way, we can contribute to Global Mental Health as part of the WHO Comprehensive Mental Health Action Plan 2013-2020.

This model has been successful in Bosnia where over 120 professionals have been trained and hundreds of people have already been treated. In response to the turmoil in the Middle East, TAUK continues growing a project to train Arabic speaking clinicians
