  • Mission statement

The Hebridean Whale and Dolphin Trust (HWDT) is dedicated to enhancing knowledge and understanding of Scotland’s whales, dolphins and porpoises (cetaceans) and the Hebridean marine environment through education, research and working within Hebridean communities as a basis for the lasting conservation of local species and habitats.

  • Aims

Hebridean Whale And Dolphin Trust aims to:

    • Conduct long-term monitoring of the distribution, relative abundance and habitat use of the cetaceans in Hebridean waters.
    • Raise public awareness of marine biodiversity in the Hebrides. By educating people about the marine environment, we are contributing to safeguard biodiversity now and for the future.
    • Provide those who manage Scotland's marine wildlife and habitats with information needed to achieve effective conservation of the area's extraordinary biodiversity.
    • Provide exciting outdoor learning opportunities for young people; our education programme aims to educate the citizens and decision makers of tomorrow.
