  • Mission statement

Barnsley Youth Choir (BYC) aspires to be the most inspirational and innovative organisation for young singers who live or study in Barnsley, Yorkshire and immediate environs. We create exceptional training opportunities for young people, give exceptional performances, empower young people, strengthen our connection with audiences and create a flagship ensemble to represent the town on a local, national and international stage.

    Our goals are to:

    - discover exceptional musical talent
    - provide inspirational teaching and guidance
    - create exceptional performance opportunities
    - enthuse young people in the joy of singing and the arts
    - demonstrate outstanding national relevance

We aim to inspire our members through stimulating creative processes, diverse performance
opportunities and through exciting cultural exchanges and collaborations.

Underpinning these goals is the aim to ensure participation from the widest range of young people from all backgrounds, with a particular focus on supporting those from challenging economic backgrounds. BYC established a bursary fund to ensure all young people have equal chances in life to participate and achieve their aspirations, regardless of financial background.

Alongside this, we also aim to recruit, support and train a wide range of volunteers to support with the delivery of activities.

BYC is an entirely voluntary organisation - all the Musical Directors, trustees, and staff give their time freely to support the young people.
