The Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment is one of the world's leading orchestras; its performances are given on period instruments for the education and enjoyment of the widest possible audience.

    The Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment is one of the world’s leading orchestras, giving performances characterised by excellence and vitality on period instruments. We are passionate about providing a wide programme of concerts, broadcasts and recordings for the education and enjoyment of the widest possible audience; exploring innovative repertoire and new ways of presenting music through accessible, inclusive and interactive means. The Orchestra collaborates with and nurtures outstanding musical talent. Renowned for our friendliness and warmth, we enrich the lives of people both inside and out of the concert hall through superlative performances and through our award-winning Education programme for children and young people. The Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment is resident at London’s Southbank Centre and is Associate Orchestra at Glyndebourne.

  • Aims

    Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment aims to:

    • To maintain and develop a dynamic and distinctive music Education outreach programme for the long-term benefit of those who have few opportunities to experience professional, live music.
    • To present a wide-ranging concert programme of music played on period-specific instruments for the enjoyment and education of the widest possible audience in London and further afield.
    • To develop and nurture outstanding talent by creating opportunities for young professional musicians to work intensively alongside the Orchestra.
