African Vision Malawi

Enhancing a community of appx. 45,000 in the central rural area of Malawi - developing structures of self-sufficiency to combat poverty, malnutrition and disease and to promote education.

Founded 2005

  • Mission statement

African Vision Malawi has worked successfully since 2005 with and through rural communities to develop long-term and sustainable solutions to issues in five key areas: education, healthcare, orphan care, self-sufficiency and water and sanitation. By working with the communities, we are helping them to be able to support the orphans and vulnerable community members themselves.

We work through a robust and enduring network of Locally-Based Committees: a successful structure of volunteer villagers serving in 14 of the largest villages, covering the whole community of 45,000 (400 square miles). With them, we build and run schools, clinics, wells, and the infrastructure required to enable the community to work, and we make it possible for them to learn the skills required in the community: permaculture, the acquisition and conservation of clean water, vocational and life skills training, caring for the vulnerable, protecting their land and environment, etc.

  • Aims

    African Vision Malawi aims to:

    • The improvement of life for a large community of approximately 45,000 villagers north of Lilongwe, Malawi, through the continuing extension of the community's power of helping itself.
    • Developing opportunities for self sufficiency and financial sustainability for vulnerable and isolated members of the community through vocational and life-skills training.
    • The promotion of education, particularly for orphans, disabled and vulnerable children by offering them support to maximise their chances at a better life.
