Amref Health Africa
Amref Health Africa
Amref Health Africa is Africa’s leading health charity and the leading healthcare development agency on the continent. Working primarily with women and girls, our vision is of lasting health change within Africa’s most vulnerable and remote communities. Headquartered in Nairobi, we are a truly African organisation which combines grass roots development with government partnerships through a community-based approach.
Amref Health Africa is Africa's leading health charity. We believe that access to adequate and affordable healthcare is a human right. Moreover, we believe that healthcare is key to a brighter future: freedom from poverty, economic empowerment, and the fulfilment of human rights. From our headquarters in Nairobi, we work with some of the most remote and marginalised communities on the African continent, empowering them to transform their health - and their lives.
We believe that meaningful change must be community-led. To this end, we work primarily with women and girls, unlocking their potential to effect lasting change for themselves, their families, and their communities.
As the world strives to meet the Sustainable Development Goal of Universal Health Coverage by 2030, Amref is committed to removing the barriers that impede access to healthcare - ensuring that no-one is left behind. The work of our UK office contributes to this ambitious objective.
Amref Health Africa aims to:
- Maternal & Child Health - We work primarily through women and girls, championing them to build the knowledge, skills and means to transform their health.
- Training Health Workers - Amref Health Africa aims to strengthen the capacity and capability of health and health-related professionals.
- Sexual Reproductive Health & Rights - We are improving access to family planning and sexual health information, offering better, brighter futures across sub-Saharan Africa.
- Water, Sanitation & Hygiene - We are increasing sustainable access to safe water and sanitation facilities in poor rural and urban communities.
