East African Playgrounds

East African Playgrounds works in disadvantaged communities across Uganda, helping children who do not get the chance to play. We use a repeatable three-fold model to:
- train teachers in the importance of play-based teaching for children’s learning
- train communities and parents in the importance of play for children’s development
- provide children in communities with high quality, safe and sustainable play facilities
Through our work, we provide employment and training to 45 Ugandan staff.

Founded 2009

  • Mission statement

East African Playgrounds aims to enhance the lives of children across Uganda by developing children’s learning opportunities and environments whilst providing valuable employment.

    We aim to:

    - allow children free access to a safe place to play and develop
    - allow children a space to develop their creative and interpersonal skills
    - give young people the skills to have a prosperous future

The charity’s objectives are to train young adults in Uganda to become professional builders and welders and then to use their new skills to build high quality playgrounds across Uganda. These playgrounds enable the children to make the most of their childhood by developing their social, mental and physical selves through play. The charity provides play advocacy programmes at educational facilities and places of childcare provision to emphasise the importance of play and help the children develop.
