Age UK Canterbury

We’re an independent local charity that works hard to strengthen our community by engaging, connecting , supporting & helping older people to remain independent in a comfort of their homes for longer.

Founded 1970

  • Mission statement

Our independent centre is situated within the old city wall of Canterbury & a short distance from Canterbury Cathedral, serving older people residing in the Diocese of Canterbury. We offer a caring, kind, & inclusive environment, which is underpinned by Christian values. We are committed to maintaining that distinctiveness.

The people we support often have some mobility issues & are struggling to go out. We aim to provide appropriate quality support, however complex or demanding that might be, enabling older people to overcome loneliness & live to the full in their communities; making their later life a more fulfilling, enjoyable experience.

We provide a range of services for older people helping to maintain or improve the economic, social, psychological and physical well-being of older people. Our services include:
~ Day Centre / Social Opportunities ~ Home from Hospital ~ Computer lessons ~ Drop in café ~ Dementia Day Care ~ Dementia Carer Support Manager ~ Befriending Service ~ Care Navigator Service ~ Information and Advice

Service recipients are mainly over 65’s both men & women who are experiencing any or all of the following: financial difficulties, living with long term health / mental conditions (often resulting in stress & anxiety). A considerable large group lives in isolated or rural areas with significantly restricted mobility facing decreased independence & feelings of despair / loneliness.
