  • Mission statement

North Somerset charity KeySteps helps local adults, in poverty, who are homeless or at risk of homelessness to secure a home. We work with young people (over 18), street homeless (rough sleepers), sofa-surfers (hidden homeless), people in unsuitable or unfit housing, victims of domestic abuse, recovered alcoholics and addicts, people whose landlords are selling up, whose relationships have ended, who have lost jobs, people with mental health issues, learning difficulties and / or health issues.
We give advice and information on housing issues and related benefits at our twice-weekly drop-ins where we also help with form-filling. We use our many connections with the local authority and various organisations in the area to link people in with the support and help they need.
When there is no statutory obligation from the local authority, we can give a paper deposit bond to help with the costs of getting into private accommodation. We then offer continued tenancy support and follow-ups to help people to maintain their tenancies and to benefit from the security this provides by getting into training, education, work etc. , as appropriate. We can also secure emergency B&B and source donated or low-cost furniture and white-goods.
Our ethos is rooted in the Christian faith of its founders. We offer a friendly, non-judgmental response that treats each person as an individual. We listen and care for the person; we don’t just solve the problem. We give them the time they need.

  • Aims

    KeySteps aims to:

    • To alleviate homelessness in North Somerset by offering a bond to cover the deposit on a private rental property, where no other form of help is available.
    • To help our bond-holders to sustain their tenancies by offering continued support and advice with housing issues, benefit applications etc.
    • To help our bond-holders to fulfill their potential and achieve their goals once they have stable accommodation by signposting to training opportunities, helping with job applications etc.
