Step By Step London
Step By Step London
Step by Step provides out of school activities for children/young people with moderate to severe disabilities. These include after school sports, Sunday clubs, playscheme, outings and residentials.
Step by Step aims to improve the quality of life and health of moderate/severely disabled children and young people (cyp) from the Orthodox Jewish (OJ) community in Hackney. We provide enjoyable sport and leisure activities for for disabled cyp during out-of-school hours which contributes to their social, emotional, physical and intellectual health and development, and promotes independence.
Our programs have the additional purpose of providing respite to parents, carers and families of disabled children, enabling them to stay physically and emotionally healthy, improve their lives, and build happier home environments.
This group of children and young people are unable to access mainstream sport and leisure activities, because of their varied and often severe disabilities, as well as their very specific religious and cultural needs. They require services with a high level of support (usually 1:1) to enable them to participate, and services which recognise their faith and cultural needs. Step by Step was established to address the lack of services for this group of users, so they have the opportunity to improve their health and fitness, make friends, and gain new skills and independence.
Step By Step London aims to:
- Step by Step aims to improve the physical, social and emotional lives of moderate/severely disabled children through activities designed to impart life skills and break down barriers.
- Step by Step aim to improve family lives through access to extended respite. Parents, carers and siblings are able to take a break, enabling them to take the best care of their child on their return.
