Canterbury Food Bank We are a community project providing emergency (three-day) food parcels and support to individuals and families in short term financial crisis across the Canterbury District.

    Our vision:
    is for Canterbury Food Bank to become a valued service in our community, reducing child poverty, addressing social welfare issues and touching and changing lives in a positive way

    Accountability – we are aware that our vision will only be accomplished through the generosity of others and we will ensure the efficient use of the resources entrusted to us

    Education – we believe that investing in education is the single, most effective means of reducing poverty, and we are committed to life-long learning, giving those in need critical skills and tools to help them better provide for themselves and their families

  • Aims

    Canterbury Food Bank aims to:

    • Prevent or relieve poverty or financial hardship by the provision of emergency food parcels, health and hygiene items, education and training services to individuals in financial need
    • Increase the confidence and improve the general well-being of those in financial need
    • Operate as a grassroots community organisation, welcoming volunteers (often former clients) and providing them with training and advice
    • Provide more sustainable support to clients, in the form of recipe cards, cookery tutorials and budgeting advice, helping clients eat more healthily and manage finances more effectively
