East Lancashire Railway is a twelve mile heritage railway line in North West England which runs between Rawtenstall and Heywood.

Founded 1968

  • Mission statement

    To preserve, restore and operate the East Lancashire Railway for the education of the public. To tell the story of the railway and its impact on the local area and what it brought to the local economy. In addition, to provide a sustainable tourist attraction for volunteers and public to enjoy their recreational time.

  • Aims

    East Lancashire Railway Holdings Company Limited aims to:

    • The reinstatement of the platform 2 canopy has become increasingly needed in recent years due to the continued growth of the East Lancashire Railway and The Trackside public house.
    • The finishing of steam locomotive 80097. The class’ versatility has been proven and therefore the completion of the restoration of 80097 would be an obvious advantage to the ELR
    • To provide improved coaching stock for the Dining with Distinction service and the Santa Specials.
