Station House Community Connections

A new community benefit society to tackle the challenges of rural isolation across an area of East Suffolk where infrastructure to support community growth is limited.

Founded 2013

  • Mission statement

    Station House Community Connections has a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to turn the disused Station House at Wickham Market station (on the East Suffolk Line) into a community amenity to bring local social, economic and environmental advantage. It will be equipped with modern communication facilities and services to support partnership working, rural community growth, development and sustainability. It aims to generate and invest in new community provision and activity, to foster new community relationships, social and business networking, and raise awareness and understanding of an area covering 11 parishes linked by geography and/or rural context. The railway catchment area is wide and the daily movement of people through the station makes the Station House an ideal venue. Built in 1859, it passed out of railway ownership with the Beeching cuts in 1967 and has been derelict for the past 7 years. Restored in keeping with its railway heritage, its historical purpose will combine with a community function to provide ‘something for everyone’.

  • Aims

    Station House Community Connections aims to:

    • The provision of recreational and educational facilities that enhance community activity and involvement and promote community development;
    • The delivery of educational and recreational activities that promote and support the development of new community relationships and wider community engagement;
    • Collaboration with other voluntary organisations, charities and institutions in pursuance of the Society’s wider objects;
    • Any other charitable activities as may be determined from time to time and that support the primary purpose.
