The African Science Truck Experience (TASTE) Uk

TASTE improves practical science education for students in Uganda using a mobile laboratory and teacher training.

Founded 2011

  • Mission statement

Our Vision: To create a generation of scientifically literate and enthusiastic school leavers with the potential to transform Africa.

Our Mission: To increase the standard of practical science education in Uganda, and later the rest of Africa.

We achieve this by combining a well-equipped mobile teaching laboratory for secondary pupils with a training programme for local teachers. The mobile lab visits rural schools to deliver high-quality, hands-on practical science lessons to students studying for their O-level exams (equivalent to GCSEs). In each lesson we aim to illustrate key scientific concepts, instruct students in essential practical skills, and inspire a new generation of scientists.

Our teacher training programme complements the work we do with the mobile science lab, introducing local science teachers to our upcoming lessons so that they are empowered to join in with the teaching and develop their own skills.

During school holidays we hold extra skills workshops, careers seminars and mock exams to boost our impact.
