Up 'N Away
Up 'N Away
Up N Away is a charity that provides a wide range of out of school activities for very disadvantaged inner city children, giving them opportunities that they otherwise could never have.
Up N Away's mission is to improve the lives and opportunities for disadvantaged young people who suffer from poverty, social exclusion and low standard over-crowded housing. We target children from dysfunctional families, those with a family member with disabilities or illness, or other challenges in their lives. Added to that, the young people we target attend underfunded schools with scant resources to provide all but the most basic curriculum. They miss out on sports, swimming, IT, drama, music and singing. Also, their school day is long and very text based. Up N Away is their only chance to let off steam, develop their latent creative and other talents, and shine in areas previously undiscovered. Young people on the brink of dropping out have their enthusiasm rekindled, their self image improved, and their future leisure and employment prospects better assured with the access Up N Away provides to a host of different and new activities.
Our mission is to improve their lives, both now and in the future of disadvantaged young people, by broadening their horizons, giving them access to a fun programme with lots of activities both on and off site designed to develop their skills, improve their social interaction, benefit their health and wellbeing, both physical and emotional, and give them lots of ideas on how to spend their leisure in the future, and improve their potential.
