Hampstead and Westminster Hockey Club

Hampstead and Westminster Hockey Club provides opportunities for men, women and children of all abilities and backgrounds to play hockey in the local community.

Founded 1894

  • Mission statement

Hampstead and Westminster Hockey Club promote community participation in healthy recreation by providing facilities for the playing of hockey.
    This includes:
    • Encouraging participation in hockey in London at all levels and ages for both sexes, developing a high physical and moral standard in players
    • Offering training opportunities for volunteers in the instruction of playing hockey

HWHC was set up more than 100 years ago and since then has established itself as a significant hockey presence in central London, running around 20 teams each week, encompassing all levels of ability (from National to Regional Leagues), including 2 veterans teams and 4 junior age-groups.

HWHC invests in the highest achieving teams, attracting top-flight coaches and players and allowing their skills and experience to be of benefit to the rest of the club from junior to senior level. At the other end of the spectrum, players and coaches attached to the club run sessions for young players from the local community to develop their interest in the sport, and in doing so increase their fitness levels, their personal discipline and ability to work in teams.

The club intend to significantly increase the participation of young players in the council area of Westminster, as well as increasing the availability of coaching to players from local state schools where there is little support for sports other than football.

  • Aims

Hampstead and Westminster Hockey Club aims to:

    • Help fund the council's replacement and maintenance of astro-turf pitches in order to benefit both the club and the wider local community.
    • Expand our youth programme and increase our junior section from 50 children to 150 over the next two years by providing quality coaching and an outreach programme to local state schools.
