  • Mission statement

Since its inception nearly 30 years ago, the Menuhin Competition has brought together musicians from all over the world in an exceptional atmosphere of learning and exchange.

Going beyond the boundaries of traditional music competitions, the Menuhin Competition is a feast for music and violin fans from all over the world. More festival than mere competition, each competition is a ten-day festival of concerts, masterclasses, talks and outreach activities with world-class performers.

Open to participants of all nationalities and comprised of two age groups: Juniors (under the age of 16) and Seniors (16 to 21 years of age)

To celebrate the 100th anniversary of Yehudi Menuhin's birth, the Menuhin Competition will return to London in 2016 for the first time in over 10 years.

Yehudi Menuhin lived much of his life in Britain, holding British citizenship and receiving a peerage as Baron Menuhin of Stoke d'Abernon in 1993. One of the greatest violinists of the 20th century, Menuhin left an amazing legacy particularly in the field of music education. To honour and celebrate his life and legacy, the Menuhin Competition 2016 will stage a 10-day festival of events and concerts.

The Menuhin Competition London 2016 and the Menuhin Centenary Celebrations will be held from 7 - 17 April 2016.

"I sat back and could only gasp with amazement... " Michael White, The Daily Telegraph
