Liquid Vibrations

We offer underwater listening sessions to children with special and complex needs in hydrotherapy pools in the UK, combined with Watsu practice and training. We are conducting research in this area.

Founded 2013

  • Mission statement

Liquid Vibrations uses an innovative approach to listening and art outreach by providing underwater listening sessions to special needs children in hydrotherapy pools.

We are combining a thorough and relaxing listening programme with Aquatic Body Therapy (Watsu) training and practice to enhance the listening experience.

Sound travels five times faster underwater and is perceived through the skeletal system. This accounts for a special listening experience that we have found to have a profound effect on people.

There are a number of possible outcomes and benefits for disabled children and adults:

    Educational:
We have found evidence of improvement in listening and paying attention and increased curiosity, even with children who have difficulty in vocalisation.

    Physical
Freedom in the water for children who are restricted in their movements is already appreciated by special schools. We have witnessed that listening to underwater sound can relax the listener and assist their range of motion.

    Emotional
Listening to music can be a profoundly intimate experience which has emotional resonance. We have witnessed tremendous excitement and pleasure in hearing sounds which can be heard and felt in the bones for children with complex needs or autism.
