C4WS Homeless Project

C4WS works with people experiencing homelessness to secure housing and support them as they begin the process of rebuilding their lives.

Founded 2005

  • Mission statement

We run a winter shelter for five months of the year which provides emergency accommodation for nearly 100 homeless people who have nowhere else to go. The shelter is a community based project that operates across fourteen shelters and works in partnership with local volunteers, businesses and charities.

Our staff work on a one-on-one basis with each guest entering the shelter to help them find appropriate housing. Last year 93% of those guests that engaged with our services were moved into accommodation.

We also support the varied and often very complex welfare needs of all guests coming into the shelters. These include assistance with physical and mental wellbeing, employment, debt management, education, training, literacy, asylum and immigration issues.

However, obtaining housing is often only the first step in someone beginning to rebuild his or her life. An invaluable aspect of our project is to continue working with guests after they have left the shelter – and in some instances for years afterwards – to ensure they are supported and do not fall back into homelessness.

This assistance includes continued individual welfare help and the provision of food and utilities starter pack to help guests set up in their new homes. Guests also have the option of signing up to our Mentoring and Befriending Scheme where they can receive help from trained volunteer mentors who will support them in the transition from homelessness.
