The Meserani Project

A unique ‘home-grown’ charity with a primary focus on providing secondary and further education for young people in an area of northern Tanzania where education is not accessible due to poverty.

Founded 2010

  • Mission statement

The Meserani Project's primary aim - Educating Africa's Children - is achieved through involving individuals, families and organisations in the U. K. In providing education for young people in a specific area of Tanzania who are not able to access education - due to extreme poverty, and family circumstances. Most of our children are orphans, and come from families affected by AIDS, malaria and malnutrition. Many of the girls we work with are facing forced marriages and violence at home. We link our children up with sponsors from the U. K. , who then sponsor the children through secondary school, and then further education. We have links with many primary schools, secondary schools, training colleges and vocational colleges, and as well as sponsoring young people to attend these establishments, we fund building projects and provide basic requirements such as water, solar power, text books, whiteboards, classrooms and teacher accommodation. Our golden rule is that no expenses are taken out from any money raised or donated - everyone who works on behalf of the project does so entirely at their own expense - there is no money syphoned off - either in the U. K. Or in Tanzania. Many individuals from the U. K. Visit the pupils, schools and families throughout the year at their own expense, and work directly with them in a supportive and monitoring role.

  • Aims

    The Meserani Project aims to:

    • Provide secondary and further education for young people in an area of Tanzania where it is not accessible to them due to poverty and family circumstances.
    • Enable young people from a developing area of Tanzania to escape the extreme poverty that is part of their lives.
    • Enable the young people to be independent, and be able to pursue their hopes and ambitions without dependence on aid.
    • Provide a charity working in Africa, that people from the U.K. can become involved in, where no expenses at all are taken out or syphoned off.
