Founded 2012

  • Mission statement

The memorial was unveiled on 4 October 2015 in The Forbury, Reading, by Chris Tarrant OBE and Mr James Puxley the Lord-Lieutenant for Berkshire.
It is formed of a Roll of Honour which commemorates the 424 men of the Berkshire Yeomanry who gave their lives in the wars of the 20th Century. Information boards explain about The Berkshire Yeomanry, Gallipoli, this VC deed, VCs.

A sculpture of Trooper Fred Potts and Trooper Arthur Andrews ( by Tom Murphy) depicts events at Gallipoli (21-23 August 1915) when, after both men were severely injured when advancing on Turkish position at Scimitar Hill, Fred rescued Arthur from certain death from infront of the Turkish trenches, whilst under constant fire, and was awarded the Victoria Cross.

This was the Yeomanry's first VC and Reading's only VC. Our depiction of this courageous event represents the many events of courage and selflessness that happen in military and civilian life but which are not recognised.

Education is a key aim. In 2018 we continue to deliver classes / workshops to Primary and Secondary schools about; WW1, Gallipoli and this particular deed
