We provide people who have this life changing surgery with free literature, a 24 hour helpline and a quarterly magazine. Our volunteers give reassurance to ostomates with stoma specific concerns

Founded 2005

  • Mission statement

    To provide support, reassurance and practical information to anyone who has or is about to have life saving stoma surgery.

    To help ostomates improve their wellbeing and their quality of life at a time when they are most vulnerable or feeling isolated.

    To offer a lifeline to carers and other family members, giving them the support to help their loved ones cope with living with a stoma.

    To run a freephone 24 hour helpline 365 days of the year to ensure help is always available when people feel concerned.

    To publish a free quarterly magazine giving useful information on coping strategies and how to live life to the full with a stoma.

    To provide a wide range of literature and an informative website.

    To train and invest in a team of over 100 UK volunteers who attend open days, giving support to ostomates and their carers - and who deal with adhoc calls on a variety of topics of concern.

    To champion issues that affect colostomates, their families and their carers by lobbying and campaigning for their rights.

    To run a closed Facebook group where people can chat online, freely with others in a similar situation about their concerns.

    To promote a network of support groups around the UK.

  • Aims

    Colostomy Association Ltd aims to:

    • To provide support, reassurance and practical information to anyone (and their families) who may be about to have or already has a colostomy or other type of stoma
    • To preserve and protect the health of ostomates by providing and assisting in the provision of facilities and support services not provided by statutory authorities
    • To advance the education of the public in the subject of colostomies and other types of abdominal stomas
    • To advance the education of the public healthcare such as medical professionals.
