The Scratching Post (rescue And Shelter Appeal For Cats)

The Scratching Post is a cat rescue and rehoming charity, based in Waltham Abbey, Essex, but covering a much wider area. It has been operating for 12 years and relies solely on charitable donations.
Our ongoing programme is to provide shelter and support to cats needing new homes alongside the smaller, targeted programmes which focus on trapping and neutering feral cats in specific areas.

Founded 2009

  • Mission statement

Our aim is to rehome as many rescued domestic cats as quickly as possible after any necessary medical treatment, vaccination neutering and microchipping. Every cat in its own right is important and deserves the chance of a loving home and a happy life. Our policy is to ensure that no cat is ever kept in unsuitable accommodation while it is waiting for a home. Every cat's individual needs are catered for and the best expert help is provided. We never put a cat to sleep unless there is no hope of being able to save him or her with a good quality of life, as advised by our vets.
