Youth Initiatives

Youth Initiatives builds vibrant youth communities with hard-to-reach 11-25 yr olds in East & West Belfast, Downpatrick and Banbridge through street outreach, creative arts & youth leadership training

Founded 1991

  • Mission statement

Youth Initiatives is a cross-community youthwork which aims to awaken hope, inspire initiative and mobilize young people to make a vital contribution to their communities and to reconciliation in NI. Our outreach youthwork targets those least likely to access but most in need of informal education and support.

Youth Initiatives specialises in reaching out to 11-25 year olds at risk of engaging in criminality and dropping out of education. Since 1991, YI has been working closely with hundreds of young people aged 11-18 in West Belfast and has developed into a youthwork charity with 24 paid staff, 11 interns and 90 youth volunteers (16-25 yr olds) working in some of Northern Ireland most deprived housing estates in East & West Belfast, Banbridge, Downpatrick and Derry/Londonderry.

  • Aims

    Youth Initiatives aims to:

    • empower young people to realise their contribution to society through the challenge of responsibility & teamwork
    • encourage cross-community cooperation, and understanding
    • equip youth leaders for effective youthwork
