Classrooms for Malawi

Classrooms for Malawi contributes to the advancement of education in Malawi, sub Saharan Africa, by building and refurbishing classrooms not fit for purpose in partnership with local communities.

Founded 2012

  • Mission statement

Classrooms for Malawi offers a sustainable route out of poverty for the children in Malawi; building friendships, communities and futures.
Malawi, East Africa, is one of the poorest countries in the world.
We work in partnership with the local education authority, village chiefs, head teachers, parents and members of the local community to build and refurbish classrooms. We rely on the local education authority to direct us to schools where the greatest need exists. By providing a proper learning environment we hope to encourage every child to attend school. Similarly, we hope to support teaching staff by providing safe, attractive and motivating classrooms.
Presently there are insufficient classrooms in most primary schools with average class sizes of 133. Too many children are being taught outside in large groups, often under trees which provides some shelter from the sun but during their rainy season the children are sent home. Most schools in Malawi were built 50 years ago and as a result the classrooms are crumbling, dark, damp and dangerous
Our aim is to alleviate this by building and renovating classrooms.
