AMERA helps asylum seekers and refugees to access their rights in Africa and the Middle East, through supporting partners in those countries to develop and provide free legal representation.

  • Mission statement

    AMERA supports the development of free legal advice and representation for asylum seekers and refugees in countries where these services are limited or non-existent. By building the capacity for free and local legal assistance, in countries where there is a dire need, AMERA provides the most vulnerable asylum seekers and refugees with a sustainable source of support and protection.

  • Aims

    Africa And Middle East Refugee Assistance (amera) aims to:

    • Educate members of the legal profession, in law affecting refugees, in each country of operation, leading to an improvement in the quality of legal advice and representation
    • Increase access to justice for asylum seekers and refugees in national and local police and judiciary institutions
    • Increase the number of asylum seekers recognised as refugees thereby awarding them protection and the basic civil rights derived from that status
    • Increase the provision of free legal advice on matters relating to asylum determination, resettlement, family reunification and the enjoyment of the fundamental rights
