The Tyne & Wear Building Preservation Trust (TWBPT) was established to preserve the architectural heritage of Tyne and Wear through the repair, conservation and regeneration of our historic buildings. TWBPT is one of many such buildings preservation trusts in the UK.

  • Mission statement

    The Trust works in the following ways to achieve its vision:

    • Acquire and preserve, for the public benefit, threatened buildings of architectural and historic importance.
    • Work with local communities to understand the residents’ concerns and solve local issues.
    • Through the re-use of neglected buildings improve the quality of local life.
    • Lead by example to encourage others to take on more problem buildings in an area of regeneration.
    • Ensure buildings are repaired to the highest standard.
    • Help enhance traditional skills levels.
    • Work in partnership with local authorities, enterprise agencies, specialist advisors and the private sector.
    • Educate and raise awareness by holding open days in restored properties and by involving the community at all stages.
