Malt Cross Trust Company

The Malt Cross Trust exists to provide a Christian response to issues of binge drinking and anti-social behaviour in Nottingham. Our guiding principle is “Loving People, Serving Nottingham”.

Founded 1996

  • Mission statement

Based in a Victorian Music Hall in the city centre, our mission is to deliver practical responses that alleviate the negative effects of anti-social behaviour on individuals, whilst also having a strategic impact on the night-time economy, with a focus on licensing laws and policing.

We run a Street Pastors and Safe Space project in the city centre two nights a week. We coordinate and support around 100 trained volunteers to patrol the city centre streets looking for opportunities to help vulnerable people in the night-time economy, be that due to excess drug or alcohol consumption, as a victim of crime, or simply needing help to find their way home.

We sit on a number of policy forums including Nottingham Businesses Against Crime, the Night-Time Economy Partnership Group and PubWatch. In these roles we contribute to the development of key policies and always seek to influence a reduction in anti-social behaviour and crime.

The Malt Cross is the last remaining music hall in Nottingham, from which we operate a licensed café bar presenting a varied programme of live music and arts. Over time it has become a popular, not-for-private-profit community venue in the city. By preserving the building and promoting its heritage as a popular entertainment venue, we encourage a focus on arts, music and heritage as an alternative to consumption.

  • Aims

Malt Cross Trust Company aims to:

    • To love, care for, listen to and protect vulnerable people using the city for pleasure at night, particularly those aged 18 to 30.
    • To support and encourage young musicians and artists by providing them with opportunities to perform on our stage and exhibit artwork in our gallery.
    • To preserve and restore, for the benefit of the public, the Malt Cross music hall and to educate others about its history.
