Blue Elephant Theatre Limited

Blue Elephant Theatre is a theatre set in the heart of a socio-economically deprived estate, providing regular participation and education opportunities for free, alongside a diverse programme of arts

Founded 1999

  • Mission statement

BET projects respond to the complex challenges faced by vulnerable young people, to positively engage them, building confidence and self-esteem through creative learning, in schools and in the young people's free time.

We use the arts, theatre, dance and music to address key social problems by providing activities to improve; English as Additional Language (EAL) for ethnic minorities, refugees and asylum seekers, mental health of young people, all nature of disability, positive activities for young offenders and respite for young carers.

We motivate participants to explore personal issues, self-expression and social/ emotional development, cultivating a sense of pride, goal orientated achievement and identity. We focus on building aspirations, both within the arts and throughout the rest of the participants' lives, leading to better employment opportunities, active citizenship and social responsability.

We promote intergenerational work closing the gap between young and older people, to increase community cohesion and cultural understanding. We nurture relationships with other stakeholders in the young people's lives, to ensure that we provide relevant opportunities to those who need it most, avoiding duplication.

All of our projects are free of charge, ensuring that we can engage young people who have low socio-economical status, meaning that they need additional educational support and would not normally access the arts or additional projects, for financial reasons.
