The London Community Foundation

The London Community Foundation (LCF) is dedicated to funding community based action that improves the lives of London's most disadvantaged.

Founded 1995

  • Mission statement

The London Community Foundation (LCF) is a charity that encourages and enables effective charitable giving by individuals, companies and foundations.

Our mission is to act as a catalyst for social change in London. We have a vision of a strong and generous London - one where residents, business and government act collectively to create a fair and good society for all who live or work in the capital.

Known for prosperity and opportunity (even in current times), it’s easy to forget about the thousands of Londoners left on the margins. Wealth and poverty live side by side, while poverty, isolation and crime affect too many.

Our job at The London Community Foundation is to help bridge this gap. But this is no traditional grantmaking trust or foundation. Rather, it is a collective of citizens, companies, public bodies and existing trusts who believe that they will achieve more working together than each could alone.

On behalf of our fund holders, we have given nearly £40 million in more than 5,000 charitable grants since 1995. Our fund holders include Deutsche Bank, Land Securities, Affinity Sutton Housing Association, Norton Rose, PwC, Russell Investments, the London Evening Standard, Lend Lease, Shell, and Wates Group. Other fund holders include Comic Relief, Deptford Challenge Trust, Columbia Foundation and Office for Civil Society.

  • Aims

The London Community Foundation aims to:

    • Funding charities, community groups and social enterprises that focus on community-based action - these are often below the radar of donors and the media.
    • Helping individual donors, companies, local and regional government and other trusts and foundations to achieve their goals for giving and corporate social responsibility.
    • Building community assets (local endowments) that will provide a sustainable source of funding for communities in London.
    • Bringing people together around specific issues or geographic areas, so they can collaborate or invest collectively for greater impact.
    • Raising awareness of needs in London and the ways in which people can help make a diference.
