Southside Young Leaders Academy

An early intervention programme aimed at preventing young black males in south London being excluded from school, getting involved in gangs, committing crime and ending up as NEETs or in prison

Founded 2007

  • Mission statement

An early intervention programme to motivate and inspire Black boys aged 8-16 to become Young Leaders by improving attitudes to learning and raising educational attainments, raising self-esteem and self-confidence, providing opportunities for active citizenship, improving social and communications skills, raising aspirations and broadening horizons through active involvement in Young Enterprise and the business world. We help parents better understand and communicate with their sons through our About Boys Course. We open on Saturdays, after school and during school holidays. We run in-school mentoring and personal development courses and support our Young People until they are 16 through education support, mentoring, adventure-style activities and sport.
