Friends Of Kianjai Kenya

We are a group of Kenyans and Europeans who have linked our skills and resources together to create lasting change for the poorest communities within Meru County in rural Kenya.

Currently our focus of support is divided into three areas:
. Support to develop food security.
. Support to improve outcomes for the poorest in the community
. Support to improve outcomes for disabled children and their families

    Working in partnership with local leaders FKK enables and challenges the community to support their poorest.

    Currently our focus of support is divided into three areas:
    . Support to develop food security.
    - Due to recurring famine FKK provides food to schools and individuals in times of great hardship.
    -Working with the local community we are developing a proposal for a 200 acre community/demonstration farm.
    - In 2017 building 50 water pans for water harvesting and irrigation in Lairaingi (with a Rotary global grant)
    - Develop farms at Special units to reduce the need for feeding program monies from the UK.

    . Improve outcomes for the poorest in the community,
    - through education sponsorship to enable at least one child from each homestead to complete education and become a breadwinner.
    -Resource these local schools so they can deliver a higher quality education.

    . •Improve outcomes for disabled children and their families
    -Resourcing feeding programs to minimise malnutrition amongst disabled children.
    - Community workshops to educate mothers on health, family planning, budgeting, etc
    -Mobile physiotherapy clinics supporting children with Cerebral Palsy.
    -Mother to mother playgroups for children with disabilities at village health centres.
    -Training of local professionals to build assisted aids for CP children at a local workshop bult by FK
    -Training of church leaders to be aware of the disabled hidden with in the community, and the need to support them.

  • Aims

    Friends Of Kianjai Kenya aims to:

    • Improve outcomes for children with disabilities and their families living in this rural Kenyan community .
    • Ensure each family reduces risk of famine by sponsoring orphans and children from poor backgrounds to remain in education either at school or vocational polytechnic.Helping them become a breadwinner.
    • Improve food security in the community through farming and entrepreneurial support. Working in partnership with the local agricultural office to develop small projects and deliver education
