GEN supports girls education, income generation for women, and village development in rural Rajasthan, India. It works in partnership with an Indian charity, End Poverty.

  • Mission statement

    GEN stands for Grassroots Empowerment Network. A fundamental principle of our approach is to work at the community (grassroots) level to support and empower individuals and village based groups to identify their goals and work to achieve them. We take an integrated approach to promoting sustainable rural development. We work with partner organisations in India which are carefully selected to ensure that they are reputable and have a shared philosophy with the GEN. Our primary focus is girls education, income generation for women and village developement. The population of area where we work is made up of the Islamic Meo community, resettled Sikhs and scheduled castes

  • Aims

    The Gen Initiative Limited aims to:

    • To support and empower people from disadvantaged rural communities in India with improving their own lives and those of their communities through education, capacity development and livelihood project
    • To facilitate the development of village based infrastructures that will enable villagers to review, assess and plan for life style improvements through negotiations with civil authorities
    • To provide villagers with opportunities to explore alternative ways of meeting their own needs through exposure visits, provision of technical assistance, seed money and pilot projects
    • To assist villagers, particularly women and girls, with education that will improve personal and family health, and increase opportunities for income generation and access to employment opportunties
    • To provide basic education and literacy to unschooled girls who may otherwise get married while still in their teens, and encourage their entry in to formal schooling on a more long term basis
