Red Earth Theatre

Red Earth makes new inclusive theatre that reflects a plural world, shaped by richly diverse identities.

We tour nationally to places and spaces where we can best connect with audiences.

Founded 2000

  • Mission statement

As a devising theatre company, Red Earth is committed to many different voices on stage; to a multitude of stories, not a single pre-eminent story; to Deaf, disabled, and diverse artists and audiences, especially those who are marginalised and disenfranchised.

We believe creativity emerges from the space in-between cultures, a genuinely shared space that reflects cultural identities and then transcends them to create new artistic experiences and forms. Our artistic drive is located in this shared space.

Red Earth is a leading company in the development of inclusive touring product. Our focus on work for children and families, at both small and middle-scale is unique. In the past five years, with co-producing partners, Red Earth has modelled the success and value of bringing inclusion into mainstream theatre contexts.

We have created five new inclusive theatre works (British Sign Language and English), with integrated casts of Deaf, disabled and hearing performers. Our work explores the spaces between languages and communities.

With children and young people, we develop drama-based learning and research projects that address key aspects of social change.

We lead Simorgh a national network of organisations committed to human rights, equality, access and inclusion. Simorgh’s purpose is to creatively involve the mainstream arts sector in understanding and promoting Deaf and disability equality. The network commissions, produces, programmes and curates inclusive arts.
