Ronald McDonald House Charities (UK)

Ronald McDonald House Charities provides free home away from home accommodation for families with children in hospital, enabling these children to have their families close by during their treatment.

Founded 1989

  • Mission statement

Ronald McDonald House Charities provides families with children in hospital ‘home away from home’ accommodation - somewhere free to stay while their child receives treatment, for as long as they need to.

There are currently 14 Ronald McDonald Houses across the UK, all just a stone’s throw from the children’s ward. In 2015 we helped over 7,000 families stay close to their sick children.

Many families travel miles from home so that their child can receive expert medical care from specialist children’s hospitals across the UK. Often, children have to remain in hospital for months at a time, so for the families, staying close to their child can be a struggle. Without a local Ronald McDonald House, many parents have to sleep on a chair by their child’s bed, on a pull down bed if this is available, or pay vast sums of money for hotel accommodation.

We believe families should be able to stay close to their children in hospital, by having access to a caring and supportive ‘home away from home’. Our mission is to ensure we have sufficient funds and expertise to provide free accommodation at specialist children’s hospitals.
