  • Mission statement

The Trust 'The Friends of the French Institute’ is a charity registered under the number 1069116, and administered by a board of trustees. It was created in 1998 in order to help the Institut francais raise funds and allow it to carry out its mission: to promote French language and culture in the United Kingdom, encourage cultural exchanges, and offer a large programme of cultural and educational activities both for children and adults.

The Trust has already consequently helped the Institut français collect money for the restoration of the Ciné lumière in 2009, but also for the creation of the online library Culturethèque and of Diaphonique, the Franco-British fund for contemporary music, in 2010.

Its most recent achievements are the restoration of the Art Deco Reading Room in Spring 2014 and the renovation of the children's library, now Bibliothèque Quentin Blake in Summer 2015. Moving on to the next step, the Trust is now raising funds to modernise the adults' library.
