Thomley Activity Centre

A recreation and informal education centre for disabled children and teenagers.

Founded 2002

  • Mission statement

A unique centre for children with autism and other disabilities, who visit with family, friends and school groups.

In an ideal world, disabled children would have the choice to play in the same places as their friends. Sadly, ours is the only fully accessible facility of its kind within a 35 mile radius and over 2,000 disabled children travel to us from 22 different counties each year, just to reach somewhere they can join in.

Situated in 7 acres of beautiful and peaceful countryside, our facilities are fully accessible and securely enclosed, providing a safe and supportive setting for children to play, learn and take measured risks. We offer a wide range of workshops and activities suitable for all ages and abilities, allowing visitors to have fun, make new friends and feel accepted.

We also help parents and carers - providing a place to relax, enjoy quality time with their children and access information on disability and support networks.

    Our aims:

◦To increase the self esteem, health, confidence, social and physical skills of disabled children and teenagers through accessible play, recreation and informal education with siblings and friends.

◦To provide parents and carers with a place to meet others who have disabled children, to lessen their isolation & to increase their ability to support their children through play, recreation and access to information.

◦To raise awareness amongst the community and to encourage understanding and acceptance of disability issues.
