Charity information

United Kingdom Sepsis Trust

Sepsis claims over 37,000 lives in the United Kingdom annually- more than lung cancer, and more than breast cancer and bowel cancer combined.

Research shows that early recognition and intervention saves lives – and may save as many as 15,000 lives annually in the UK per year. To achieve this improvement requires a partnership between patients, the public, and the healthcare professions. This partnership must start with heightened awareness and understanding of the condition.

  • Mission statement

At UK Sepsis, we recognise the scale and significance of the impact of severe sepsis on sufferers and their families. Although many patients return to a normal life, those who survive the condition may experience longstanding physical effects, and some suffer from psychological difficulties resulting from their prolonged illness.

We aim, through effort and through the establishment of a dedicated charity, to:

Provide support to patients and their relatives, including those bereaved by sepsis,
through the provision of accessible information and the development of support
    networks.
Endorse and support projects which aim to improve the early recognition and treatment
of sepsis in the community and in hospitals.
Promote public and professional awareness of the condition.
